Horejsi Family Athletics Center
The Horejsi Family Athletics Center has served as the home of Kansas volleyball since its opening on September 1, 1999. The $3.8 million project was completed shortly after the conclusion of the 1998 volleyball season. In addition to serving as the practice and competition home of the KU volleyball team, the Horejsi Center also acts as a practice facility for the Jayhawk men's and women's basketball teams. Located between the Wagnon Student Athlete Center and Hoglund Ballpark, the 16,500 square foot facility seats 1,300 fans for Kansas volleyball matches. Besides housing practice and competition courts for both volleyball and basketball, the Horejsi Center boasts the new KU volleyball lockerroom, concession stands and a ticket booth. On September 1, 1999, KU defeated UMKC, 3-1, in the first match inside Horejsi Family Athletics Center. However, the official dedication ceremony was held prior to the Kansas-Auburn match on September 11, 1999, during the Jayhawk Classic Tournament. "The Horejsi Family Athletics Center not only gives us top-notch practice courts, but it provides us with a court that makes home matches at KU an exciting event to be a part of," said KU head coach Ray Bechard. |
