Student-Athletes Participate in Mock Interviews to Prepare for Life After Competition
Feb. 8, 2011 LAWRENCE, Kan. - Aside from a Big Monday Border Showdown, another big event for Jayhawk student-athletes was held at the On Monday and Tuesday, 25 Jayhawk student-athletes participated in mock interviews with a variety of employers including Northwestern Mutual, Country Financial, Merck Pharmaceuticals, Farmers Insurance, IMA Financial, the Peace Corps, KU Alumni Association and Kansas Athletics. Many of the participating employer representatives were former Kansas student-athletes including Matthew Stafford (football), Pete Krsnich (men’s golf), David Johnston (track & field) and former men’s basketball manager, Bethany Scothorn. Student-athletes preparing for admission interviews for law school, optometry school, PA (physician assistant) school and physical therapy programs also had an opportunity to answer appropriate questions with members of the athletics department Student-Athlete Support Services staff. “Participating in this activity gave me a clear sense of what I can work on to better develop my interview skills as I enter the post grad world,” said KU swimming & diving junior Sarah Hettenbach, who participated in a physician assistant school interview.
