Erin Penning

Erin Penning kept stats and a shot chart for her basketball-coach father as a child and can still be found courtside with a pencil in hand today. Penning joined Kansas Athletics in August 2002 and began working as the communications office manager in October 2006, a position that keeps her around the game and its statistics. In her role she serves as the liaison between Kansas Athletics and its media members, is responsible for editing all publications, distribution of credentials, catering, overseeing communications student assistants and maintaining the office, among numerous other duties. The Jewell, Iowa native's first stint with Kansas Athletics was with the KU Store before moving to communications after a year away working at Kansas City Dermatology. While at the KU Store, she was an assistant e-commerce/merchandising manager until 2005. Penning graduated from Northern Iowa in 2002 and spent time working as promotions and group sales coordinator for the sports marketing department and served as a men's basketball manager as a student. Penning is a member of CoSIDA, the UNI Alumni Association and is a three-time Kansas Athletics Employee of the Month. She was born in Ames, Iowa, and attended South Hamilton High School where she played volleyball, basketball, softball and competed in track and field.
