Jayhawk Jeremy Mims Qualifies For NCAA Regional Competition;

Husker Duo wins Heptathlon/Decathlon In Day 2 Of The 2003 Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The rain held off for Day 2 of the Kansas Relays, as Huskers Ashley Selig (4,954 points) and Casey Thom (7,226 points) claimed the Heptathlon and Decathlon titles, Thursday, in Memorial Stadium.

Highlighting the day for the Jayhawks was sophomore Jeremy Mims' regional-qualifying performance in the unseeded 800m run, taking first with a time of 1:50.51. Sophomore teammate Brandon Hodges followed, coming in third with a time of 1:51.57.

For the Jayhawk women, sophomore Lauren Brownrigg took fourth in the 3000m run (10:18.45) while freshman Jenna Bimbi came in fourth in the unseeded 800m run (2:14.01).

Additionally, senior Derek Lacio placed sixth in the 1500m run (3:56.77) and freshman Erik Sloan finished eighth in the unseeded 3000m steeplechase (9:56.92).

Kansas State's Rebekah Green, the Kansas Relays shot put record-holder, found success in a different throwing event, adding 2003 Kansas Relays hammer throw champion to her list of accolades with a first-place throw of 181-6. Casey Smith of Wichita State won the men's college hammer throw (193-04).

The Kansas Relays continue tomorrow, Friday, April 18, with both the running events and field events starting at 8:00 a.m. (multihammer results) (running results) (4/17/03)
