Rowing Adds Six Top-10 Finishes to Conclude Head of the Hooch

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas rowing concluded its 2013 fall season at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn., as the Jayhawks claimed four more top-10 finishes for a total of 10 top-10 finishes over the weekend.

Kansas started the day by claiming four top-10 finishes in the Women’s Championship Single. KU was led by sophomore Maggie Duncan, who came in fifth place. Seniors Alexandra Torquemada and Kaylee Sextro finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with junior Angie Flores-Rodriguez coming in ninth place.

The day continued as the Jayhawks claimed three top-10 finishes in the Women’s Open Pair. KU (C) claimed seventh place and was powered by juniors Claudijah Lever and Brooke Thuston. KU (D) finished in eighth place, while KU (B) came in 10th place.

The Jayhawks followed up with a ninth-place finish in the Women’s Open Eight. Rowing for KU were: seniors Catherine Clements (coxswain), Caitlyn Decker, Jessica Jacob, Amanda Lewis, Jessica Miller, Elizabeth Scherer, and freshmen Lexie Lanphere and Emma O’Neill.

The day concluded with Kansas earning a third-place finish in the Women’s Open Quad. The Jayhawks’ final top-10 finish came at the hands of seniors Torquemada and Sextro, junior Tearson ‘Jade’ Lambkins and sophomore Duncan.

The KU coaching staff believes the fall season will pay dividends for the team in the spring season.

“We ended the day with six top-10 finishes,” head coach Rob Catloth said. “Our performance over the weekend was a good way to end the fall season. We now have some experiences for our team to build on.

Kansas will continue with its preparation for the spring season, beginning Jan. 9-19 with the team’s annual winter training trip to Tampa, Fla. The Jayhawks will kick off the 2014 spring season March 15-16 at the Louisville Invite in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
