Downtown Shot Put to be Aired on ESPN3

LAWRENCE, Kan. – One of the more unique events in sports today can now be viewed around the world as the Kansas Relays Downtown Shot Put event will be broadcast on ESPN3.com it was announced by meet officials Friday. The broadcast will air beginning at 6 p.m., April 17 through the event’s completion from the streets of downtown Lawrence.

“We’re very excited to have ESPN helping us promote this outstanding event,” said Kansas Relays Director Milan Donley. “There is no other event like this in the U.S. today, so it’s great that fans from all over the world will be able to watch these terrific athletes compete in the unique and beautiful setting of downtown Lawrence.”

Fans can watch the event by logging on to ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app via their mobile devices. ESPN3 is currently available to approximately 70 million homes at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider.

Fans in the Lawrence and Kansas City area will also be able to watch on Metro Sports (Time Warner Channel 30 [HD – 1310], Knology Channel 36, COX Channel 22).

Leif Lisec and Adam Nelson will provide the commentary for the broadcast. Nelson, who competed in the last two downtown shot put events, was a silver medalist in the event at both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games and was a seven-time U.S. Champion for before retiring last summer.

The field for the third annual downtown Lawrence shot put competition was announced earlier this week, and it includes the 2012 Olympic bronze medalists, three world champions, three U.S. champions and four past Olympians. The defending downtown champion, Reese Hoffa will headline the field.
