KU Women’s Golf Team Headed to Ireland

LAWRENCE, Kan.- Kansas women’s golf team is preparing for the upcoming season by traveling to Ireland from August 10-18. This will mark the first trip head coach Erin O’Neil and the Jayhawks have taken overseas, during her tenure.

The team will be taking a number of golfers on the trip, including: Thanuttra Boonraksasat, Gabby DiMarco, Carly Humes, Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, Minami Levonowich, Meghan Potee, Mackenzie Thayer and Michelle Woods.

O’Neil believes this trip will be great preparation for the season as the team will be playing some of the top courses around the world.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to play golf in a different setting,” said O’Neil. “The players will be put in situations they’re not normally in at home, which will hopefully translate when they come back to school, and make them be that much more well- rounded.

“It is a great opportunity to expose players to these conditions in order to learn how to play different shots.”

The Jayhawks will face tough competition as they will be playing the Irish National Team during the trip.

“The Irish National Team will be a good test for the players,” said O’Neil. “It will give them a chance to compare themselves to some of the best players in the world.”

The KU student athletes also have expectations going into the trip. Kawinpakorn, a sophomore, believes the trip to Ireland will give them great preparation for the fall season.

“The trip will prepare us to help each other out when we have problems or struggles on the course,” said Kawinpakorn. “It will show us how to play together.”

The Ireland trip will be a great team bonding experience for the Jayhawks, as they will go sightseeing during four of the eight days. The KU players look to enjoy this great opportunity, have fun and ultimately elevate their golf games.
