REMINDER: Rowing Set to Host 2014 Open House

Open House RSVP

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing program will host its second-consecutive open house Sunday, Feb. 9, at the University of Kansas Boathouse at Burcham Park.

The open house is for high school junior and senior girls interested in rowing at KU. The final day to RSVP for the event is Tuesday, Feb. 4. Girls interested do not need to have prior rowing experience. The open house begins at 10 a.m.

The recruiting open house will begin with tours of the Kansas Boathouse located at 200 Indiana Street in Burcham Park in Lawrence. The program will include information presented by KU coaches and current rowers. The day will conclude with the group enjoying the KU women’s basketball game vs. Oklahoma at Allen Fieldhouse. A complimentary ticket will be included for all attendees. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2 p.m.

Rowing has been a varsity sport at KU since 1995 and averages about 75 team members each year. The team is comprised of two squads: the Varsity Squad, which is for second, third, and fourth-year rowers; and the Novice Squad, which is for rowers in their first year of collegiate competition. The vast majority of Novices have no previous rowing experience.

Both squads are varsity athletes at KU and enjoy all the benefits that the Kansas Athletic Department offers including academic advising and tutoring, training room and weight room access, and workout and racing apparel.
