LAWRENCE, Kan. – Behind sophomore Chase Hanna, Kansas men’s golf will travel to the Sagamore Preview at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Indiana, Oct. 13-14.

Kansas has posted two top-three finishes in three events this year which includes third place at the Wolverine Intercollegiate (Sept. 6-7) and second at the Ram Masters Invitational (Sept. 15-16). The Jayhawks placed eighth at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 28-30) in their last outing.

During KU’s break since the Badger Invitational, PGA golfer and Kansas alum Gary Woodland visited the team as they prepared for the Sagamore Preview.

“Gary is a big Jayhawk. He loves KU and loves everything about it.  He wants to see this golf team improve and will help out in any way possible to get us better,” KU head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Gary shared some stories and great insight to the team. I think they learned a lot from his perspective, not only a PGA player, but also a KU winner. He is one of the most successful KU golf alums that we have ever produced.”

Hanna has played in every tournament this season, where he has finished tied for 32nd at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, a runner-up finish at the Ram Masters Invitational and tied for 21st at the Badger Invitational.

The forecast for the Sagamore Preview is a 50 percent chance of rain on Oct. 13 with scattered storms and an 80 percent chance of rain on Oct. 14.

“We have all played in the rain, so I think we are prepared for it.  We have had some experience in bad weather last year, so we aren’t worried about it,” Hanna said.  “I have never played in a tournament where a round has been scratched, but if it happens it happens.”

For the Sagamore Preview, the Jayhawks will consist of senior Logan Philley, juniors Ben Welle and Connor Peck, Hanna and freshmen Spencer Painton. Philley leads the team in scoring with a 72.55 per round average followed by Peck’s 72.55 and Welle at 72.65.

The Sagamore Preview will be played on a 7,173-yard, par-72 course at the Sagamore Club with 36 holes on Oct. 13 and 18 holes on Oct. 14. Kansas will be competing against Akron, Auburn, host Ball State, Eastern Michigan, FGCU, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, NIU, Purdue, Toledo, UAB and Xavier.
