Kansas Baseball: Fall Ball Report No. 3

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas baseball team returned from fall break and wasted no time getting onto the diamond for another set of fall intrasquad scrimmages.

The Jayhawk batsmen continue to rake this fall and catcher Michael Tinsley is leading the way for the squad.

Tinsley has collected 16 hits through his first 28 at bats in the autumn scrimmages, leading all hitters with a .640 average. In the most recent week of practices, he went 9-for-11 across four games. His most impressive performance came Saturday (October 18) where he came up just a homer shy of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-4 and knocking in three RBIs.

Colby Wright put on a show of his own from the plate Sunday (October 19), where he went 3-for-4, hitting a single, double and a homer, also falling just short of hitting for the cycle. Wright knocked in three runs and scored two of his own.

Joven Afenir went 6-for-13 in the four scrimmages, highlighted by a 3-for-5 effort on Saturday. The sophomore outfielder hit three singles, scored two runs and batted in one runner.

Newcomers to the pitching staff are starting to find their groove on the bump for the Jayhawks. Freshman Blake Weiman and junior transfer Ben Krauth shined on the mound in their latest outings.

Weiman pitched four scoreless frames Friday (October 17) striking out three of the 11 batters he faced. The south-paw didn’t allow a hit or walk in the appearance.

Krauth also pitched four innings of scoreless ball in his most recent appearance on the hill. The lefty didn’t walk any batters and only allowed three hits.
