Rock Chalk Showdown Victor Declared

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball concluded its fall practice with the Rock Chalk Showdown, which took place instead of the annual Rock Chalk World. The Royals were crowned the victors of the first Rock Chalk Showdown after overcoming an eight-run deficit to win, 10-9.

The Jayhawks split into two teams, Monopoly and Royals, and wore uniforms that coincided with their team name. Monopoly pulled ahead to a commanding 9-1 lead and was an inning away from victory, but the Royals rallied and came from behind to score nine runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Chanin Naudin was named the Rock Chalk Showdown MVP after a 4-for-4 performance at the plate. She also contributed three RBIs for Monopoly. Junior Chaley Brickey was 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and also drew two walks. Freshman Jessie Roane registered a multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 effort. One of her two hits was a double.

The Royals’ rally was led by senior Maddie Stein and sophomore Lily Behrmann, who each posted a multi-hit game after going 2-for-4 at the plate. Stein added a RBI in the come-from-behind victory. Freshman Erin McGinley was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while sophomore Taylor McElhaney was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored.

The Jayhawks will end the fall with several Rock Chalk Team activities, like pumpkin carving and the annual Spooky Triathlon on Friday, Oct. 31.
