Kawinpakorn Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s golfer Yupaporn Kawinpakorn was named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for October, the conference announced Friday.

A junior from Samuthprakan, Thailand, Kawinpakorn finished as the runner-up in both of her October events and recorded her ninth and 10th career top-10 finishes, including three for the fall season. In her first event, the Ron Moore Invitational at Highland Ranch Golf Course in Littleton, Colorado, Oct. 7-9, Kawinpakorn shot a 1-under 71 in her opening round and then two even-par 72s to finish second in the 75-golfer field.

Kawinpakorn followed that performance with a second straight second-place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Kawinpakorn shot a career low four under 68 to finish three under for the event and one stroke behind the event winner in the 104 golfer field.

This is the first time since the award was introduced in 2002 that a Kansas women’s golfer has been named Big 12 Golfer of the Month. A 2014 All-Big 12 selection and two-time Big 12 All-Tournament honoree, Kawinpakorn leads KU with a 73.13 per round stroke average with 73.13 which is on pace to set a single-season record. Last year she set the lowest stroke average in school history with an average of 74.46, breaking her previous record from her freshman year which was 75.4.
