LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head football coach Charlie Weis officially announced his 2014 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon. Weis, along with his staff, put together a class of 25 signees, including three student-athletes who signed in December and two transfers.

“I’m very pleased with this recruiting class,” said Weis. “Our staff had to show good patience and through hard work we filled almost every pressing need.”

Kansas previously announced receiving signatures from the junior college trio of cornerback Ronnie Davis (Oklahoma City, Okla./Northeastern Oklahoma A&M), offensive lineman Keyon Haughton (Baltimore, Md./Georgia Military College) and safety Anthony “Fish” Smithson (Baltimore, Md./Hartnell College) during the mid-year signing period in December. KU also released the addition of two transfers, in quarterback T.J. Millweard (UCLA) and tight end Kent Taylor (Florida) prior to 2014 signing day. On Wednesday morning 20 more prospects faxed in their scholarship papers to bring the total number to 25.

Kansas’ 2014 class includes 15 high school signees, eight junior college transfers and the two previously referenced Division I transfers. There are 12 defensive players and 13 offensive players in the group.

The 2014 KU signees represent nine different states and Canada, with Texas leading the way providing 11 new Jayhawks. Three local players signed letters of intent with KU as safety Joe Dineen (Lawrence, Kan./Free State HS), offensive lineman Apa Visinia (Grandview, Mo./Grandview HS) and running back Traevohn Wrench (Gardner, Kan./Gardner Edgerton HS) each joined the program.

In addition to the 25-member signing class, Weis and the Kansas program honored the memory of cornerback/wide receiver Andre Maloney. Maloney, who had verbally committed to play at Kansas, tragically passed away on Oct. 4, 2013.

The Jayhawks signed four four-star players according to ESPN.com in high school running back/wide receiver Corey Avery (Dallas, Texas/Carter HS), offensive lineman Jacob Bragg (Nacogdoches, Texas (Nacogdoches HS), linebacker Kyron Watson (East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis HS) and Wrench. Wrench was also tabbed a four-star player by Rivals.com.

The Jayhawks open up their 15-practice spring practice slate on Tuesday, March 4, and the schedule will conclude with the 1 p.m., Spring Game on Saturday, April 12. KU will get five practices in before taking a one-week hiatus for Spring Break, and then return for three-straight weeks of practice leading up to the annual scrimmage.

Other important spring dates include: Hannah and Friends Football Clinic with Charlie Weis and the Kansas Football Team (Saturday, April 5), Kansas Football Coaches Clinic (Friday/Saturday, March 28-29) and the Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic (Saturday, April 12).

Kansas will enter spring football returning 34 letterwinners and 16 starters from the 2013 season.
