Kansas Hoops Signees to Compete at the Jordan Brand Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s basketball signees Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre Jr., will compete in the Jordan Brand Classic on Friday, April 18, at 6 p.m. (Central) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. This is the 13th year of the Jordan Brand Classic, one of the nation’s premier high school all-star games.
 
Alexander and Oubre will be on opposite teams for the Jordan Brand Classic, just like they were for the McDonald’s All-American game played April 1 at the United Center in Chicago. For the Jordan Brand Classic Oubre will be on the East team, while Alexander the West squad. Oubre scored 11 points and made the game-winning free throws for the West team in the McDonald’s game, while Alexander had nine points and 11 rebounds for the East squad.
 
The duo joined forces as members of the USA Junior National Select Team which defeated the World Select Team at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore., April 12. Oubre scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Alexander scored six points in the victory.
 
Alexander, a 6-8, 240-pound power forward from Chicago, is listed as the No. 4 overall recruit according to rivals.com after averaging 27 points, 17 rebounds and five blocked shots per game this season at Curie High School. Oubre, 6-7, 200-pound guard from Henderson, Nev., is ranked No. 12 by rivals.com and averaged 23 points per game at Findlay Prep. Oubre grew up in New Orleans and moved to the Houston area following Hurricane Katrina before transferring to Nevada to finish his prep career.
 
Additionally, on Thursday, Alexander was named Student Sports 2014 Mr. Basketball USA. This is the second national player of the year accolade for Alexander who was named the Naismith Boys High School Player of the Year in March. Like the Naismith honor, Alexander is the second straight Jayhawk to be named Mr. Basketball USA as Andrew Wiggins was the 2013 selection. Beginning in 1996, Student Sports Basketball has named Mr. Basketball USA.
