Jayhawk Football Duo Set to Graduate, Explore Other Opportunities

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Wide receiver Andrew Turzilli and quarterback Jake Heaps have decided to graduate and move on, Kansas head coach Charlie Weis announced Friday.

“Andrew, who graduated in May, and Jake, who will graduate at the end of June, have decided to explore other opportunities,” said Weis. “I’m proud that both of these young men leave Kansas as graduates. I would like to thank them for their contributions to KU football and wish them the best.”

Turzilli earned his bachelor’s degree in American studies in May. He played in 24 games, including seven starts, during his three seasons playing for KU. He tallied 27 receptions for 491 yards and two touchdowns.

“I am extremely proud to have earned my degree from KU,” said Turzilli. “I am thankful for all of the relationships I have made during my time at Kansas and I wish the entire program nothing but the best in the future.”

Heaps, who is expected to complete his degree in liberal arts and sciences at the end of June, came to Kansas in January 2012 after playing his first two seasons at Brigham Young University. As a Jayhawk, Heaps saw action in 11 games in 2013, picking up nine starts. In his lone season at KU, Heaps competed 128-of-261 passes on the year for 1,414 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by Coach Weis to play football and earn my college degree at the University of Kansas,” said Heaps. “My wife and I have truly enjoyed being part of the Jayhawk community. We have made lifelong friends through this experience and we will always consider ourselves Jayhawks.”

Weis also announced Friday that running back Darrian Miller is no longer a member of the Kansas football program, as he left the team for personal reasons.
