Markowitz Joins Kansas Women’s Basketball Staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced the addition of Drew Markowitz to the Kansas women’s basketball staff as the Director of Player Development/Analytics.
 
Markowitz’s primary duties at KU include developing analytical output to evaluate player and team performance, while also managing all video needs for the Jayhawks. He will also assist with gameday operations, player development, summer camps and recruiting efforts.

“We’re thrilled to bring Drew to Kansas and to have him join our program,” said Henrickson. “His expertise in technology, specifically video, will help develop our players and with self-scouts. Drew has worked in two successful programs and brings great energy to our program.”

For the past two seasons, Markowitz served as the video coordinator for the University of Michigan women’s basketball team. Markowitz’s primary responsibilities included organizing and developing reports, drawing and organizing the team playbook, and managing all film needs for the Wolverines. He developed analytical outputs to evaluate player and team performance.  Markowitz also assisted in player development and summer camps.

 “I am really excited to join the program,” Markowitz said. “I felt really comfortable with the coaching staff right from the start. It’s an incredible opportunity to work with a storied program like Kansas. The history here at KU is second to none. I am really excited to be here and get to work.”

Prior to joining the Wolverines, Markowitz was a graduate assistant with the University of Virginia women’s basketball program. Markowitz supported the coaches with player development, recruiting and practices, as well as assisting and specializing in post player development.

While at Virginia, he also assisted the director of operations with team travel, meal coordination, scheduling and summer camps while also supporting the video coordinator with film exchange, game editing, recording, and live game coding. He was responsible for reviewing and grading tapes of potential recruits, coordinating and designing the camp website and live coding all plays and outcomes during games.

From September 2010 to July 2011, Markowitz served as the video assistant of women’s basketball at the University of Florida, where he organized and managed all film exchange and assisted in live coding of games and in filming of the games and practices. He was also involved in coaching at the Billy Donovan Basketball Camp and the Amanda Butler Basketball Camp while at the University of Florida and the Joanne P. McCallie Basketball Camp at Duke University.

Markowitz received his degree in business from Virginia Tech in July 2009 and his master’s in sport management from the University of Florida in May 2012.
