LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas swimming and diving team was among 139 Division I schools honored with the Team Scholar All-America Award from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Jayhawks posted a team grade point average of 3.31 in the spring, marking the 24th semester in a row the team has achieved Academic All-American status.

“One of our major goals each semester is achieving a team GPA of 3.25 or above,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “With our student-athletes hard work in the classroom and leadership from academic advisor Laura Jacobsen, we were able to surpass our target.”

The Team Scholar All-America Award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Kansas’ team grade point average of 3.31 was the third highest in the Big 12 Conference, behind West Virginia (3.46) and TCU (3.42).

In fall 2013, KU swimmers and divers earned a 3.20 GPA.  Kansas’ success in the classroom came during a season with seven road meets, including the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas. At the league meet, the team earned a second-place finish, marking its highest in program history.

The spring GPA marks the highest since the team posted a 3.62 average in spring 2012.

The Jayhawks open the 2014-15 season on the road against Nebraska-Omaha on Oct. 13. The team will swim its first home meet of the season in Robinson Natatorium Oct. 24-25 in a double-dual against Denver and Missouri State, the first of seven meets in Lawrence this year.
