Kansas Tennis Ends ITA Summer Circuit with Doubles Victory

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After Kansas tennis player Smith Hinton, the last remaining Jayhawk in the ITA Summer Circuit singles competition, was eliminated in the semifinals, she returned to the court with teammate Summer Collins to win the doubles competition.

Caroline Henderson, Rachel McNeely, Smith Hinton, Madison Harrison,  and Summer Collins all participated in quarterfinal matches in the singles competition Saturday. Smith was the only player to advance and was defeated in the semifinals by Katie Swan who went on to win the tournament on Sunday.

Kansas tennis had a strong showing in the doubles competition, as the only pairing not to make the semifinals was Czapinski/Johnson who was eliminated by teammates Henderson and McNeely. Henderson/McNeely then defeated singles winner Swan and her teammate Allie Schulte to advance to the final.

Smith Hinton and Summer Collins eliminated the pairing of Jasmine Almaguer and Madison Harrison in the semifinals, and went on to defeat Henderson/McNeely by the score of 8-1 to win the doubles competition.
