KU Well Represented In 104th Kansas Amateur

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas golfer Chase Hanna shot a two-round 132 (-8) to earn medalist honors for stroke play and the No. 1 seed for match play at the 104th Kansas Amateur Match Play at Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas. The KU sophomore, one of nine Jayhawks to participate in the 2014 Kansas Amateur, opened with an event-tying 18-hole low score of 64 (-6) on July 22.
 
Hanna, the defending Kansas Amateur champion, then recorded a 2-under 68 July 23 to claim the top seed. On Thursday, the Leawood, Kansas, native won his opening round match 5 and 4 over David Jackson of Lansing, Kansas, to advance to the round of 32.
 
Hanna was one of nine former KU men’s golfers in the 180-golfer field for stroke play with the top 64 advancing to match play. Other Jayhawks who advanced to match play include: Conrad Roberts (who lettered at KU in 1999-2000), Kit Grove (1995-97 and was KU head coach from 2008-12), Tyler Shelton (1992, 1994-95), Pete Krsnich (2003-06) and Aaron Sheaks (1992). Jayhawks that did not make match play include: Fred Rowland (1958-59), Sean Thayer (1989-90) and Ryley Haas (2012-14).
 
Thursday began six rounds of match play including one on July 24, two on July 25, two on July 26 and the a 36-hole championship on July 27.
 
Earlier this summer Hanna recently qualified for the 2014 U.S Amateur Public Links Championship yet missed the cut by four strokes shooting a 151.
