LAWRENCE, Kan. – The KU cross country teams will kick off the 2014 season at home on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 9 a.m., when the Jayhawks host the Bob Timmons Dual Classic at Rim Rock Farm. The KU men will try to claim their 12th-straight team victory on their home course while the women will be going for their ninth win in the last 10 Bob Timmons meets.

The meet will begin at 9 a.m., with the men’s 6K race. At 10 a.m., the women will hit the course to compete in the 5K race. The Jayhawks will welcome teams from Highland Community College and Iowa Western. Oral Roberts and UMKC will join Kansas in a double-dual style scoring format.

With some of the veteran runners watching from the sidelines, the KU coaches will be looking to see who the leaders are among the underclassmen at the early point of the season.

With the loss of all-region runners Josh Munsch and Reid Buchanan, the KU coaches will now try and find who among the remaining athletes will take the reins of the men’s squad that notched a fifth-place finish at the NCAA regional meet a year ago. Eight men return to this year’s 15-member roster, the majority of which were a part of Kansas’ successful run through the 2013 campaign. Saturday’s race will give fans a great look at the future of KU cross country and possibly separate those who could be key contributors to this season’s success.

The women’s squad will feature All-Big 12 and All-Region performer Hannah Richardson, who will return for her junior campaign. The 17-woman roster features 13 underclassmen. Several of those young Jayhawks proved themselves able to run to the top of the lead pack a year ago, including sophomores Malika and Nashia Baker. This weekend the coaches have called upon them to don the Crimson and Blue at the Bob Timmons.

Complete results, along with a full recap of the event including video of athlete and coach reaction, will be available on KUAthletics.com following completion of the races. Also follow on Twitter at @KansasXC for live updates and results throughout the morning.
