Kansas Rowing Alums Hit the Water

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For 20 years, head coach Rob Catloth has been the leader and the face of the Kansas rowing program. For 20 years, he’s helped young women not only grow on the water, but as well-rounded individuals, as well. Catloth and his former rowers united Saturday morning at the Kansas Boathouse to celebrate and relive past memories.

“It was a cool event,” said Catloth. “We had quite a few alumni back this weekend to celebrate 20 seasons. It’s fun to see all the faces, families and kids. It’s just a giant family of all the women who’ve gone through this program.”

KU welcomed alumni back to campus for K Club weekend. The reunion was held in conjunction with the K Club/Homecoming Weekend. The weekend included events such as the Traditions Golf Tournament at Alvamar, an evening social and a gameday tailgate to the KU vs Texas football game.

The morning started with breakfast as the alums gathered and reminisced in the Boathouse’s main room. After everyone had a chance to catch up, the alumni took advantage of the beautiful weather and flat water for a race on the Kaw.

“The race was a little long,” Catloth stated. “I’m sure they enjoyed getting back in the water and it a fun time for everyone.”

After the race was completed and the boats cleaned up, the rowers joined together for the traditional post-race alma mater and Rock Chalk chant.

“Overall it was just a great experience,” said Catloth. “It was a great morning and it’s always nice to see the former rowers come back.”
