Trio of Jayhawks Make Pro Bowl Debuts
LAWRENCE, Kan. – A trio of former Kansas football players made their debuts in the National Football League (NFL) Pro Bowl Sunday evening. Denver Broncos teammates and cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Chris Harris and San Diego Charger safety Darrell Stuckey represented the Jayhawks in the NFL all-star affair.
Harris and Stuckey helped lead Team Irvin to a 32-28 win over Talib’s Team Carter. Harris tallied two solo stops in the win, while Stuckey was credited with one assisted tackle for Team Irvin. Talib was the second-leading tackler for Team Carter with five solo tackles.
“It was an amazing atmosphere to play in,” said Stuckey. “It made it even better being on the field with Chris and watching Aqib play in such a momentus game.”
Talib, Harris and Stuckey all teamed up as Jayhawks for the 2007 campaign. The trio helped lead KU to its winningest season in program history as the Jayhawks posted a 12-1 mark, including a win in the 2008 Orange Bowl. Overall, the three secondary players combined for three bowl wins, 747 tackles and 24 interceptions during their time at Kansas.
As professionals, the three Jayhawks have combined for 33 interceptions and seven touchdowns. Talib (2013) and Harris (2014) have each been tabbed second team All-Pro, while Talib also earned an invite to the Pro Bowl last season, but was unable to play in the game due to injury. Meanwhile, Stuckey has been a special teams captain for the Chargers in each of the last three seasons.
Three Jayhawks were tabbed for the Pro Bowl for the second time in school history and the first time since 1963 when Galen Fiss, Curtis McClinton and Mike McCormack all played in the game. Kansas’ trio of pro bowlers led the Big 12 Conference and made them one of seven schools in the NCAA to have three or more alums playing in the game in 2015 as Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia and LSU each had three former players invited, while Alabama had four and Miami had five.
