Rychagova Moves into Finals of ITA Central Regional

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas freshman Anastasiya Rychagova advanced to Monday’s title match after picking up back-to-back wins on Sunday afternoon at the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regionals hosted at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University. Rychagova capped her day with a win over the 12th-ranked player in the NCAA to pave her way to the finals of the singles Main Draw.

“I do not even know where to begin with Anastasiya,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “I am so impressed with her. It is amazing how poised and mature she is on the court in pressure situations, especially as a freshman.”

A Moscow, Russia, native, Rychagova opened Sunday’s play by knocking off Minnesota’s Carolina Ryba in the quarterfinal round. She made quick work of Ryba, winning in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1.

In the semifinals, Rychagova took on 12th-rated Viktoriya Lushkova of host Oklahoma State and again won in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3.

“Anastasiya played really disciplined decisive tennis today and beat two really good players,” said Chapman. “Not only did she win twice, but she was in complete control the whole time. She is excited with the opportunity to play for the championship tomorrow.”

Rychagova will compete against another Cowgirl in Monday’s championship match as she will face Oklahoma State’s Katarina Adamovic at 11 a.m., at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The winner of the match will automatically qualify for the National Indoor Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York, which is the same site where the US Open is annually held.
