Hinton and Rychagova Dominate at Purdue Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s tennis had a great start at the 2015 Purdue Invitational as both sophomore Smith Hinton and freshman Anastasiya Rychagova were undefeated on the first day of action Friday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
 
The Jayhawks started off with a strong showing in doubles play, collecting back-to-back victories to advance to the semifinals. Hinton and Rychagova received an opening-round bye before defeating Deborah Suarez and Marta Ruedas-Burgos of Purdue, 6-3. The duo followed that up with a 6-3 win over Michigan State’s Athena Trouillot and Davina Nguyen.
 
In singles action, both Hinton and Rychagova were victorious in their first match in pool play. Hinton defeated Ines Vias of Illinois, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the Boiler Up Draw. Rychagova notched her first win over a ranked opponent in her young career as she bested 83rd-ranked Georgiana Patrasc of Mississippi State in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Action will resume at the Purdue Invitational, Saturday at 8 a.m. (CT).
