Kansas Women’s Golf to Close Fall Season at Palmetto Intercollegiate

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The fall finale for the Kansas women’s golf team will take place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Competition will take place at the par-72, 5,972-yard Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The 20-team event will take place from October 25-27, with one round being played each day.

Senior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, sophomores Kallie Gonzales and Pitsinee Winyarat and freshmen Laine Evans and Ariadna Fonseca Diaz will represent the Jayhawks in South Carolina. Kawinpakorn will try to extend her streak of individual titles to three, a feat accomplished only once in program history by Holly Reynolds. Gonzales and Winyarat are both coming off of career outings at the Chip-N Club Invitational, shooting a career-low 54-hole scores and recording career-best finishes. Fonseca Diaz is looking to continue an impressive streak of her own, having finished in the top-10 in the least two tournaments.

The term “career-best” has been tossed around a lot this past fall, as six out of the seven Jayhawks on the roster are underclassmen. A Kansas squad with little experience heading into the season has grown up significantly over the course of four tournaments.

“The biggest difference I have seen in the team is their confidence in themselves continues to improve as they learn new shots and gain more competitive experience as we near the end of our fall season,” said KU head coach Erin O’Neil.

Competing alongside Kansas will be Augusta University, Boise State, Boston University, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston (Host), East Tennessee State, Furman, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Maryland, South Florida, Stetson, Tulsa, Virginia Tech and Xavier. Kansas assistant coach Katy Nahm is an alum of Coastal Carolina.

Fonseca Diaz will carry the Folds of Honor golf bag. The golf bag will be carried by all members of the team throughout the season and will be auctioned off at the end of the season. Proceeds will go to the Katzenberger family of Parkville, Missouri.

Round one will start with split tees off of No. 1 and No. 10 on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. eastern. The second round will begin on Monday at 9:00 eastern with split tees off of No. 1 and No. 10. The third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. eastern on Tuesday. Live stats can be found at Golfstat.com
