Football Professional Round Up: Week Seven
LAWRENCE, Kan. – With professional football in full swing at the conclusion of the seventh week of games in the National Football League Sunday, 12 Jayhawks continue making their mark at the game’s highest level. A weekly recap of how Kansas football players fared in the professional ranks of the National Football League and the Canadian Football League is below.
Jon Cornish – Calgary Stampeders (CFL)
The Stampeders were off during the week of Oct. 25. They will resume action on Oct. 31 against Saskatchewan. Cornish sat out Calgary’s 27-15 victory over Toronto on Oct. 17 due to neck stiffness. The nine-year pro has rushed for 622 yards and four touchdowns after playing in nine games in 2015.
Chris Harris – Denver Broncos
Harris and the Broncos were off during the seventh week of games. The Broncos resume play on Sunday Nov. 1, when Denver plays host to the Green Bay Packers at 7:30 p.m. On the year, Harris has 24 tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a score. Denver is one of five teams yet to suffer a defeat through week seven, posting an unblemished 6-0 record.
Tanner Hawkinson – Philadelphia Eagles
Hawkinson was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed from the San Francisco 49er’s practice squad on Oct. 13. The Eagles lost, 27-16, to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night Football. Philadelphia is now 3-4 on the year.
Ben Heeney – Oakland Raiders
Heeney posted an assisted tackle in the Raiders’, 37-29, victory over AFC West Division foe San Diego on Oct. 25. On the year, Heeney has played in five games so far in his rookie season, with two stops. The Raiders currently are second in the West with a 3-3 record.
Steven Johnson – Tennessee Titans
Johnson saw time in Tennessee’s, 10-7, loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 25. After being traded from Denver prior to the season starting, Johnson has made one tackle through six games in helping Tennessee to a 1-5 record in the AFC South.
Dexter McDonald – Oakland Raiders
McDonald saw his only action of the season at Chicago on Oct. 4, but has not recorded any statistics in his rookie season. The Raiders currently hold an overall record of 3-3 and sit second in the AFC West.
Bradley McDougald – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
McDougald tied for the team lead with nine total tackles in Tampa Bay’s, 31-30, loss to the Washington Redskins on Oct. 25. McDouglad has started all six games at free safety and has already recorded 34 tackles and one interception on the year. Tampa Bay is currently in third place with a record of 2-4 in the NFC South.
Toben Opurum – New Orleans Saints
Opurum and the Saints won, 27-21, against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 25. Opurum has played in one game in 2015 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 13. The Saints are 3-4 and in third place in the AFC South.
JaCorey Shepherd – Philadelphia Eagles
Shepherd is sidelined on the Eagles injured reserve list after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
Kevin Short – Seattle Seahawks
Short is a member of Seattle’s practice squad. Seattle won, 20-3, against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.
Darrell Stuckey – San Diego Chargers
Stuckey made one tackle in San Diego’s, 37-29, loss to the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 25. Stuckey now has five tackles and the first sack of his five-year career in week five at Pittsburgh. San Diego is now 2-5 on the year.
Aqib Talib – Denver Broncos
Talib and the Broncos were off during week seven. The Broncos resume play on Sunday Nov. 1, when Denver plays host to the Green Bay Packers at 7:30 p.m. Talib has posted 18 tackles and three interceptions for the AFC West leading Broncos.
