KU’s Gagnet Claims Academic All-District Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas junior defender Aurèlie Gagnet was named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday morning. Gagnet was named to the first team of the NCAA Division I’s seventh district, one year removed from being named to the second team as a sophomore.

The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average above 3.3 and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

Gagnet, who also earned a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team last season, was named Academic All-District for the second time in her career. The junior out of Montpellier, France is majoring in political science and currently boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.96. This season, Gagnet has started in 16 of Kansas’ 17 matches and is averaging 87.9 minutes per outing. With her help on the Kansas defense the Jayhawks have tallied five shutouts in 2015 and recently wrapped up a 307-minute opponent scoreless streak, the 10th-longest in program history.

Gagnet’s spot on her district’s first team makes her eligible to be named to the Academic All-America squad, to be announced later this season.

Kansas (8-8-1) will play the TCU Horned Frogs on Friday, Oct. 30 in Lawrence in the team’s regular-season finale. KU and TCU will kick off at 7 p.m., in a game that can be streamed live on Kansas Athletics’ YouTube Channel.
