KU Will Move Pitt State Game if World Series Returns to KC

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Athletics will move next Wednesday’s men’s basketball exhibition game to Thursday, Nov. 5, if the World Series returns to Kansas City for Game 6.

The Jayhawks are currently scheduled to face Pittsburg State next Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.  That day and time would conflict with Game 7 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets if the Series goes that far.  (Games 6 and 7 of the Series are scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday nights.)

If the Royals wrap up the Series in New York, the exhibition game will remain on Nov. 4.  If the Series returns to Kansas City, KU and Pittsburg State will play on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.

“We love the roll the Royals are on,” said KU men’s basketball coach Bill Self, “and we know that interest in this Series is sky-high in this area.  Many of our Jayhawk fans will want to attend or watch Game 7 next Wednesday, if it goes that far, and we don’t want them to have to make a choice.  We hope the Royals wrap it up in New York, but if they don’t we’ll be ready to move our game.”

Kansas Athletics Director Sheahon Zenger said that KU will move the game even if the Series ends Tuesday night.  “We want to be fair to Pittsburg State, and we want to keep any confusion to a minimum,” he said.  “If we move the game once, we won’t move it back if the Series ends in six games.  The sure thing is that if the Series returns to Kansas City, we will move the exhibition game to Thursday night.”

The game will be televised by the Jayhawk Television Network (Time Warner Cable and Comcast) in the Kansas City area and around the state of Kansas, including Cox in the western part of the state.  It will be available on ESPN3 outside of the broadcast footprint.
