Jayhawks Cap Roberta Alison Fall Classic With a Doubles Win

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Kansas women’s tennis freshmen Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia concluded the Roberta Alison Fall Classic Saturday afternoon, with each Jayhawk playing one singles match and teaming up for a pair of doubles matches. Koch and Khmelntickaia capped the tourney with a doubles win to go 2-1 in the two-day tourney.

“We played some great doubles today in both matches,” said assistant coach Caroline Lilley. “We have been focusing on applying consistent pressure in doubles and this weekend showed a lot of improvement. We have a clear idea of the areas we need to work on for the next tournament, but we know we are absolutely moving in the right direction.”

Koch opened the day with a tough singles loss to Tea Jandric of Ole miss, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. Khmelnitckaia also dropped her long singles match of the day as she was topped by Marina Cozac of DePaul, 6-4, 6-3.

The KU tandem then opened doubles play getting edged by Jandric and Natalie Suk of Ole Miss, 7-5, before bouncing back for a hard-fought 7-5 win over Lee Or and Erin Larner of Northwestern.

Kansas will close out the fall portion of its 2015-16 slate when it travels to Lubbock, Texas, Nov. 6-8 for the Texas Tech Invitational.
