LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s tennis freshman Anastasiya Rychagova is ready to make her Broadway debut as she is set to begin play in the 2015 the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday morning. The elite tournament will be held at the USTA Bill Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, Nov. 12-15.

“This is an exciting time for Anastasiya and our program,” said Kansas head coach Todd Champman. Obviously, every player in the draw is good, so every point will have to be earned. We are proud of Anastasiya and the fall season she has produced, and we look forward to what the next few days will bring.”

Rychagova, who is the first Jayhawk to be tabbed for the prestigious singles field since the ITA began sponsoring the event in 2005, has had an impressive fall season in the Crimson and Blue. The Moscow, Russia, native has raced out to an 11-2 mark in singles play, including posting six-consecutive wins at the ITA Central Regional before falling in the title match. Prior to the ITA Central Regional title match, Rychagova had a streak of 10-straight singles wins.

As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.

Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men’s singles quarterfinalists and women’s singles semifinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Rychagova was selected as a wild card entry to the event.

Rychagova, who will be accompanied in New York by Chapman and KU assistant coach, Caroline Lilley, will hit the Billie Jean King Tennis Center courts Thursday morning for her opening match of the event where she will face Sinead Lohan of Miami. Lohan is the field’s number 5 seed, while Rychagova enters play unseeded. Rychagova and Lohan will match up at 8 a.m. (CT).

Two rounds of singles action are slated for Friday, with the semifinals scheduled for Saturday and finals on Sunday. The semifinals and finals will be broadcast on ESPN3 and will also be available on the WatchESPN app. Live scoring for all matches is available here.
