NEW YORK – Kansas women’s tennis freshman Anastasiya Rychagova dropped her opening match at the 2015 the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday morning. The Moscow, Russia, native, was defeated by No. 5 seed, Sinead Lohan of Miami, in straight-sets at the elite tournament which is being held at the USTA Bill Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

“Anastasiya did a great job finding solutions today,” said Kansas assistant coach Caroline Lilley. “She ran out of time in the end, but made some critical adjustments down the stretch to give herself chances to win the second set. She has another great opportunity Friday to build on the progress she made today.”

Rychagova, who is the first Jayhawk to be tabbed for the prestigious singles field since the ITA began sponsoring the event in 2005, was bested by Lohan, 6-2, in the opening set. She fought back and took a 4-2 lead in the second set, before Lohan came storming back to win four-straight games and capture the second set and the match at 6-4.

Rychagova will now move into the consolation bracket where she will take on Catherine Harrison of UCLA on Friday. Two rounds of singles action are slated for Friday. Live scoring for all matches is available here.
