Roberts Named to U20 National Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman Parker Roberts was named to the roster of the U.S. U-20 team that will play in the CONCACAF Championship Dec. 4-8 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras it was announced by U.S. Soccer Wednesday. The tournament will also act as World Cup qualifying rounds, which will determine the three CONCACAF teams that will compete in the 2016 U20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
 
Roberts, who has already seen extensive time with the National Team, is coming off a debut season with the Jayhawks which saw her start 19 of the team’s 21 matches and earn a spot on the Big 12’s All-Freshman team. Prior to her freshman campaign, Roberts helped the U.S. squad to a 3-0 record at 2015 U20 10 Nations Tournament, defeating Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. She also competed for US in 2015 Four Nations Tournament, finishing with a 2-1 record.
 
Roberts will join 19 other U20 selectees to represent the U.S. in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying group play next week. The top-two finishers in each group will qualify for the tournament semifinals, with the winners of those games along with the winner of the third-place match earning berths to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
 
The competition will be played at Francisco Morazan Stadium and Olympic Stadium. The USA will play all its Group B games at Olympic Stadium and opens the tournament on Friday, Dec. 4, against Mexico (7:30 CT on FOX Sports 2), faces Panama on Sunday, Dec. 6 (7:30 CT on FOX Soccer Plus) and finishes group play against Haiti on Tuesday, Dec. 8 (7:30 CT on FOX Soccer Plus).
