Anastasiya Rychagova Tabbed For 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s tennis freshman Anastasiya Rychagova continues to impress as she was recently selected to participate in the 2015 the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. The elite tournament will be held at the USTA Bill Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, Nov. 15-17.

“We are very excited for Anastasiya to be selected to play in such a prestigious event,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “To be one of only 32 players in college tennis to be selected is a great honor for her and our program. For the last three years as we have been working to rebuild our tennis program, these are the type of things we were working towards to help put Kansas tennis back on the national scene for college tennis. We hope this is one of the first steps to doing just that.”

Rychagova, who is the first Jayhawk to be tabbed for the prestigious singles field since the ITA began sponsoring the event in 2005, has had an impressive fall season in the Crimson and Blue. The Moscow, Russia, native has raced out to an 11-2 mark in singles play, including posting six-consecutive wins at the ITA Central Regional before falling in the title match. Prior to the ITA Central Regional title match, Rychagova had a streak of 10-straight singles wins.

As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.

Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men’s singles quarterfinalists and women’s singles semifinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Rychagova was selected as a wild card entry to the event.

Rychagova will attend the tournament accompanied by Chapman and KU assistant coach Caroline Lilley and the flock of Jayhawks are looking forward to her competing against the nation’s best collegiate tennis talent.

“I know Anastasia can’t wait to get to New York and compete for herself and KU,” said Chapman. “Coach Lilley and I will do our best to prepare her for this great opportunity.”
