Wait Earns Second Consecutive Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas – University of Kansas junior libero Cassie Wait recorded an astounding 8.4 digs per set – 59 digs in seven sets (two matches) – last week to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

It is the fifth consecutive Big 12 weekly honor for Kansas, which earned the No. 9 seed in the upcoming NCAA Championship.

Wait posted 36 digs during KU’s four-set win at K-State last Wednesday to set a Big 12 season high for digs in a four-set match and also set a KU program record for digs in a four-set match during the rally-scoring era. The Gardner, Kansas, native is the only libero in the Big 12 with a double-double this season, and she nearly reached her second double-double with nine assists against the Wildcats.

In the regular-season finale against Texas Tech on Saturday, Wait recorded 23 digs in just three sets to mark her fourth match this season with at least 20 digs in a three-set match.

Wait enters postseason play averaging 5.1 digs per set, which ranks second in the Big 12, as the backcourt leader for a KU team that paces the league in opponent hitting percentage (.169) this season.
