Jayhawks Have a Perfect Saturday at Texas Tech Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – Kansas women’s tennis posted a perfect 7-0 mark, five singles wins and two doubles victories, Saturday at the Texas Tech Invitational. The seven wins give the Jayhawks a 13-3 mark in matches over the first two days of play in Lubbock. 
 
“Today was another successful day,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “The conditions were tough today, weather wise, but I thought we handled things well and played maturely on the big points. Our goal is to finish the fall team season off Sunday with a strong showing.”
 
Kansas got singles wins from all five players competing in the Texas Tech Invitational. Senior Maria Jose Cardona topped Nancy Menjivar of Boise State, 6-2, 6-2, while sophomore freshman Janet Koch bested Megan LaLone of BSU, 6-1, 6-4. Also picking up a two-set victory was sophomore Summer Collins, who beat Hailey Grillo of South Florida, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Sophomore Smith Hinton picked up a three-set win over BSU’s Bobbi Oshiro, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1, while freshman Nina Khmelnitckaia was also a three-set winner after edging Boise State, Arianna Paules Aldrey, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.   
 
In doubles play, Collins and Cardona teamed up for a win over South Florida’s Vera Bessonova and Juliana Cardosa, 6-3, while Khmelnitckaia and Koch won by the same score over USF’s Jessica Cortes Chavez and Olga Martinez.
