Three Jayhawks Awarded Big 12 Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas – Kansas women’s basketball had three student-athletes earn a spot on the 2015 Big 12 Academic All-Conference Teams, as announced by the league on Thursday morning. Sophomore Caelynn Manning-Allen was named to the first team, while sophomore Jada Brown and senior Natalie Knight were selected to the second team.
 
A communications studies major, Manning-Allen garnered her second academic honor from the Big 12. Last season, she was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. The forward from Chicago, Illinois has appeared in 21 games this season while averaging 2.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and swatted away 23 blocked shots.  
 
A forward from Las Vegas, Nevada, Brown has started every game this season while averaging 14.6 minutes per game. A journalism major, Brown is pulling down 2.7 boards and netting 1.7 points per game.
 
Knight, a senior guard from Olathe, Kansas, is the final Jayhawk to earn academic honors from the league. She has started all 27 games this season. Knight, a communications studies major, is second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. From long range, Knight is connecting on 39.2 percent of her attempts.
 
First team members consist of individuals who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
