Kansas Set to Begin 2015 Season at Louisville Invite

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas Rowing team begins its 2015 spring schedule this weekend at the prestigious Louisville Invite in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The Louisville Invite is regarded as one of the top regattas in the nation as several top-20 teams and defending American Conference champion Louisville will all compete, which will make this weekend a tough early-season test for a young Jayhawk squad.

“There are a lot of top teams going to be there,” Kansas rowing head coach Rob Catloth said. “Louisville, Yale, Virginia and Notre Dame help make it a strong field. Plus we’re going to see some Conference USA teams that we will compete with later on in the year so this will be an early season measure to see where we are compared to teams we’ll be racing later on.”

This will mark the first spring regatta for many of the student-athletes on the team, but Catloth has faith his team will use this as a learning experience.

“I think the team will learn a lot about themselves,” stated Catloth. “How they can race and what level they’re ready to race at. For us, we’ll learn what we need to build on from this weekend going into the first part of the season.”

The two-day competition marks the opening event of the 2015 spring portion of the Kansas schedule. Following the Louisville Invite, Kansas will host Drake for a scrimmage on March 28, then KU will head south to Dallas, Texas to square off with SMU.

The Louisville Invite will kick off Saturday morning with races well into the evening. It will then continue on Sunday morning and wrap-up early afternoon.
