Former KU Midfielder Signs with Portland Thorns FC

PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Kansas soccer midfielder, Sarah Robbins, signed with Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) over the weekend. Robbins played for the Jayhawks from 2009-2012 and will be making her first appearance in the NWSL.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Robbins appeared in 50 matches during her four-year Kansas career, averaging 52.8 minutes per outing and adding a goal and four assists.

Following her days at Kansas Robbins spent time playing oversees. She appeared in 14 matches, recording three goals and seven assists, for the Finnish club Åland United in 2014. The midfielder also logged 1,189 minutes for the Naisten Liiga side, and competed in the qualifying round of the 2014-15 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

On the international level, Robbins has competed with the U-20 Women’s Canadian National Team, appearing in three games at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, while she also spent time playing with Canada’s U-23 Women’s National Team.

Thorns FC, which won the NWSL title in the league’s first year in 2013, will open the 2015 NWSL season against the Boston Breakers on April 11 in Portland.
