LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf looks to close out the regular season at the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, April 18-19.

Last year, the Jayhawks placed in fourth at the Hawkeye Invitational with a three-round 872 (+8) behind then-freshman Chase Hanna and then-sophomore Connor Peck and Ben Welle’s tied for seventh finish.

The Jayhawk squad this year will consist of freshman Daniel Hudson and Spencer Painton, redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch, Hanna, Peck and Welle.

Hanna continues to be a leader on the Jayhawk team as he has competed in every event this season.  Hanna leads the team in stroke average per round with a 72.0 and has four top-20 and two top-5 finishes this season.

“I feel very good about my game headed into the Hawkeye Invitational,” Hanna said. “I feel like my game is coming around and the golf course suits my eye.”

Hudson is coming off of his second straight top-20 finish where he tied for 18th at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, April 4-6 in Old Waverly, Mississippi. He is averaging 72.6 strokes per round in the spring and has been a big asset to the team.

“Dan and Chase have been very consistent,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Dan is a freshman, so he is learning every week.  Dan has gained a lot of confidence and feels like he belongs out there. We saw this last year with Chase, the later it gets in the spring, the better he gets. That’s a pretty good one-two punch, we need them.”

Peck is averaging 73.0 strokes per round in the spring and has two top-20 and two top-10 finishes on the season. Welle is averaging 73.75 stokes per round and has led the team in scoring three times this in 2014-15. Drogosch is averaging 73.67 strokes per round this spring and has one runner-up finish at the Desert Shootout, March 19-21, in Phoenix. Painton is competing in his fourth tournament as a Jayhawk, including two as an individual. He averages 73.67 strokes per round this spring.

“We have to play a little more efficient, disciplined and consistent and we will be fine,” Bermel said.

The Hawkeye Invitational will be played on a 7,180-yard, par-72 course at Finkbine Golf Course. The 12-team field, hosted by Iowa, includes Kansas, Denver, DePaul, Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas State, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, Washington State and Wichita State. The tournament will be played over two days where the competitors will play 36 holes on Saturday, April 18, and 18 holes on Sunday, April 19.
