LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas rowing program will be back on the water this weekend, competing in the Big 12 vs. Big Ten dual at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kansas. The Jayhawks will team up with fellow Big 12 conference foe Oklahoma in a league battle against Big Ten schools Iowa and No. 9 Wisconsin.

Big 12 vs. Big Ten
The dual will feature a conference vs. conference point system along with head-to-head racing. Kansas will square off against Iowa in the morning session and Wisconsin in the afternoon. KU and OU will work together to score points for the Big 12, but will not race against each other. For each race, points will be distributed for first and second place, accumulating by conference as well as individual teams. Scored events include Third Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Eight.

The day will be split into two sessions, beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Should inclement weather alter the race schedule, updates will be given on Twitter by following @KU_Rowing. Upon completion, a team winner and conference winner will be crowned.

About Kansas
KU is riding some momentum into the weekend competition after having a solid outing at the Knecht Cup. The Jayhawks posted a first-place finish in the First Varsity Eight Petite Final along with two second-place finishes in the Grand Finals, in both the Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight.
Saturday’s dual will mark the first home regatta for the Jayhawks in the spring portion of their schedule. Kansas will also play host on May 2, at Wyandotte County Lake, in the annual Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State.

Series History vs. Wisconsin
The Jayhawks and Badgers have squared off frequently on the water, dating back to 1999 where the two met in the Midwest Rowing Championship, and will mark the fifth year the two programs have raced against each other. Wisconsin has a strong rowing program and has reached the NCAA Championships 11 times, nine under current head coach Bebe Bryans. Bryans also led Wisconsin to its first ever Big Ten Championship in 2010.

Series History vs. Iowa
Kansas and Iowa have battled frequently over the course of the last 15 years. The Jayhawks and Hawkeyes first met in 2000 in a dual in Iowa City, Iowa. The two programs have also met six times in the NCAA Central Regionals, the last coming in 2009. Saturday will be the first time KU has hosted Iowa in the spring season. The University of Iowa has qualified for one NCAA Championship in 2001.

Series History vs. Oklahoma
KU and the Sooners have faced off each season in Big 12 competition since OU’s rowing program was founded in 2008-09. Oklahoma has made its presence known in its young history, winning the 2013 Conference USA Championship as well as the 2013 Big 12 Championship. The Sooners then made it back-to-back in both leagues, claiming championships again in 2014. OU made appearances in the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Championships.
