WEST POINT, Miss. – Behind sophomore Chase Hanna’s fourth top-20 finish of 2014-15, the Kansas men’s golf team placed tied for seventh at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship at the Old Waverly Golf Club, here Tuesday.

UAB won the event, shooting a three-round 850 (-14), followed by the runner-up Florida at 851 (-13). The individual winner of the tournament was Casey Fernandez of Southern Miss who shot 205 (-11).

KU got off to a slow start in the final round but the Jayhawks turned their game around and finished strong on the back nine. Hanna placed tied for 13th in the 84-golfer field, shooting a three-round 71-72-70—213 (-3). Hanna carded four birdies in the final round, totaling 10 birdies and one eagle for the event. Jayhawk freshman Daniel Hudson also finished in the top-20, his second straight, shooting a three-round 70-75-71—216 (E).

“We played very average this week,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “I felt like we just couldn’t make any putts. Chase had a good week and Dan was solid again.”

KU junior Ben Welle tied for 42nd shooting a three round 74-73-75—222 (+6), followed by redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch who placed tied for 50th posting carding a 74-75-75—224 (+8). Junior Connor Peck ended tied for 55th with a 75-75-75—225 (+9).

“We had to count two 75’s today and that hurt the team score,” Bermel said.

Up next, the Jayhawks travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational on April 18-19.
