Brickey Claims First Big 12 Weekly Award of 2015

IRVING, Texas – For the second time in her career in the Crimson and Blue, Kansas junior infielder Chaley Brickey earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

It marks the first conference weekly honor for Brickey in 2015 and first since she was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the week of March 11, 2014.

Over the weekend, Brickey hit .545 and helped the Jayhawks sweep Oklahoma State on the road, their first series win in Stillwater under head coach Megan Smith. Brickey paced KU’s offense with two multi-hit efforts and one multi-RBI performance. She led the team with six hits, five runs scored, two doubles and two home runs.

During the second game of the series, Brickey launched two home runs and double for her first multi-hit game of the weekend. She registered three RBIs in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. In the series finale, she recorded two hits, including a RBI double early on in the contest to tie the game.

Brickey led Kansas in almost every offensive category this past weekend, including an impressive 1.273 slugging percentage and .615 on-base percentage. She also collected six assists and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in three starts.

The Jayhawks continue their eight-game stretch away from Arrocha Ballpark with a three-game series at Texas Tech, April 10-12, inside Rocky Johnson Stadium. The series kicks off on Friday, April 10 at 6 p.m.
