LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a tough home series loss to Baylor, the Kansas baseball team hits the road to begin a week-long five-game road trip that starts with a two-game set, May 5-6, at Northwestern.

The Jayhawks (20-28, 7-11 Big 12) trek to Evanston, Illinois, for the first time in program history, as the squad has never faced Northwestern (15-31, 3-15 Big Ten) on its home turf. Kansas has won five-straight games against the Wildcats and holds a 5-3 mark against them all-time.

Three regulars in the NU lineup are batting over .300 with infielder Kyle Ruchim leading the way with a .366 batting average (56-for-153), including 16 doubles, a triple and a team-leading six home runs. First baseman Zach Jones is hitting .332 and leads the team with 28 RBIs while utility man Joe Hoscheit is second on the squad with 25 RBIs.

The Wildcats will send two righties to the hill in Joe Schindler and Justin Yoss. Schindler has seven starts under his belt with a 6.17 ERA while Yoss has made three starts and holds a 6.43 ERA.

Kansas will start freshman lefty Blake Weiman in Tuesday’s contest, before senior righty Colin Toalson will make the first start of his career on the bump Wednesday. Weiman enters the tilt with a record of 1-7 and a 7.02 ERA, while Toalson has pitched in 17 innings across 12 appearances.

When the Jayhawks wrap up the two-game series with Northwestern, they will continue their five-game road stint with a weekend series at Big 12 leader TCU. Kansas and the Horned Frogs will take the diamond May 8-12 with the first game slated for 6:30 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.
