Victor Simmons Garners NFL Camp Tryout with Seattle Seahawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Victor Simmons became the 11th Jayhawk to move on to the professional ranks as he earned a rookie mini-camp invite with the Seattle Seahawks Monday afternoon. Three Kansas players were taken in the 2015 National Football League Draft Saturday, while seven others found their way to free agent contracts or camp invites following the draft.
 
Simmons, an Olathe, Kansas native, saw action at safety, nickelback and BUCK during his four seasons at KU. As a senior he played in all 12 games, picking up a start vs Oklahoma. Simmons ranked fourth on the team in 2014 with 6.5 tackles-for-loss while totaling 32 tackles and two sacks.
 
As a junior, Simmons played in all 12 games, starting eight at nickelback. He finished the 2013 campaign with 61 tackles, including 7.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks. Simmons recorded a team-best three forced fumbles as a junior.
 
Linebacker Ben Heeney (5th, Oakland Raiders) and cornerbacks JaCorey Shepherd (6th, Philadelphia Eagles) and Dexter McDonald (7th, Oakland Raiders) were each selected on the third day of the 2015 NFL Draft, giving KU three draft picks for the first time since 2010. Combined with the eight Jayhawk NFL free agents, Kansas has a total of 11 players heading off to their various mini-camps this weekend. Kansas’ three 2015 NFL draft picks ranks fourth among teams in the Big 12 Conference.
 
Simmons joins wide receiver Nick Harwell (Dallas Cowboys), wide receiver Nigel King (Miami Dolphins), tight end Jimmay Mundine (Cleveland Browns), punter Trevor Pardula (Kansas City Chiefs), running back Tony Pierson (Chicago Bears), linebacker Michael Reynolds (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and safety Cassius Sendish (Cleveland Browns) as Jayhawks who have made the leap to the NFL via the free agent route.
