Jayhawks in the Pros – May 6, 2015
LAWRENCE, Kan. – With the first month in the books for many of the major women’s soccer leagues, several KU Soccer alums have already made their mark. The Jayhawks got its third former player called up to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) last week with Caroline Kastor being added to the FC Kansas City Roster, while Monica Dolinsky looks to help her new club rebound from a slow start in the Swedish premier league.
Caroline Kastor – FC Kansas City (NWSL)
After being called up to the 21-woman squad earlier in the week, Caroline Kastor made her NWSL debut Saturday when she was called on late in FC Kansas City’s 2-0 win over the Houston Dash. Kastor came on in the 77th minute with the Blues already up 2-0 on the Dash, replacing goal scorer Shea Groom. The win moved FCKC to 2-2-0 on the year and to fifth on the league table as the Blues look to defend their NWSL Championship from last year. FC Kansas City will next go up against the Western New York Flash in Rochester. Estelle Johnson – Washington Spirit (NWSL)
Estelle Johnson has quickly established herself as an indispensable defender on another pro squad as she has logged big minutes in the Spirit’s first four matches of 2015. Johnson has started three of four matches in her first year in Washington, D.C., and has helped her squad get out to a 2-2-0 record after the first four weeks of the year. The Spirit defense has allowed five goals in the three matches which Johnson has played all 90 minutes. Portland Thorns FC are next on Washington’s schedule, with the match set for Saturday, May 9 in Portland. Sarah Robbins – Portland Thorns FC (NWSL)
Sarah Robbins and Portland Thorns FC have started the year well with two wins and a tie in their first three outings of the season. Robbins has appeared in one match so far in 2015, coming on in the 88th minute in Thorns FC’s 4-1 win over the Boston Breakers on April 11. Robbins is likely to so more field time as the season progresses as Thorn FC has five players who have already been named to World Cup rosters for the U.S. and Canada. Portland will welcome the Washington Spirit to Providence Park on Saturday, May 9. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. (CT) and can be watched on YouTube at the following link:

Monica Dolinsky – Mallbackens IF Sunne (Damallsvenskan – Sweden)
Monica Dolinsky is four matches into her first season playing for Mallbackens IF Sunne of Damallsvenskan, the premier women’s league in Sweden. Dolinsky has started each of her team’s first four matches in the central midfield as the Mallbackens has picked up three points in its first four outings with the only win coming against AIK on April 25, 1-0. Dolinsky’s squad will look to move up the league table when it heads home this weekend to host Linköping FC, the third-ranked team in Damallsvenskan, on Sunday, May 10.
