Jayhawks En Route to Gwangju

The wheels are in motion as the months and months of planning have taken shape and the Kansas men’s basketball team, which will be the USA National Team at the upcoming World University Games (WUG), has begun its journey to Gwangju, Korea. The KU contingent, consisting of 12 student-athletes and 11 staff, has been practicing in Lawrence, Kansas since June 7 and won two exhibition games against the Canada WUG team June 23 and 26 at Sprint Center in Kansas City. 
 
On June 28, the USA National Team departed Allen Fieldhouse at 6:15 a.m. to Kansas City International Airport. From there the squad flew to Detroit where there was a two-hour layover before boarding a multi-level plane for Seoul-Incheon, Korea, for a 12-plus hour flight (approximately 6,650 miles). Sitting on a plane for more than 12 hours, the student-athletes participated in numerous activities such as muscle stimulators and massage bars to assist with recovery.
 
The USA National Team is bussing from Seoul to Gwangju with an arrival time of 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30. Gwangju is 14 hours ahead of the Central Time Zone in Kansas. Scheduled for Tuesday is a USA team orientation and practice in preparation for the July 3-14 Games.
