Jayhawk Freshmen Set to Face Off in Sunday's ITA Summer Circuit Finals

LAWRENCE, Kan. –- Kansas incoming freshmen Anastasiya Rychagova and Nina Khmelnitckaia will go against each other Sunday morning in the women’s singles finals of the 2015 ITA Summer Circuit being hosted at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Rychagova and Khmelnitckaia will hit the court at 9 a.m., in the singles title match.
 
Rychagova advanced to Sunday’s play after defeating Emily Metcalf, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. She then topped Brittany Lashway of the University of Missouri, 6-4, 7-6 to move into championship match. 
 
Khmelnitckaia made her way to the title match by knocking off Audrey Ann Blakely of Pittsburg State, 3-6, 7-6, 11-9 in Saturday’s quarterfinals. She then defeated her Jayhawk teammate Smith Hinton, 3-6, 6-3, 13-11 to advance to Sunday’s finals. 

In addition to the KU freshmen advancing to the singles finals, the duo paired up in doubles play winning two matches Saturday to move into the semifinals. The pair will play Sunday at 11:30 a.m., with the opportunity to claim a second title with a pair of wins. 
 
Hinton opened Saturday’s action by defeating fellow rising sophomore Jayhawk Summer Collins. The duo went back and forth before Hinton came away victorious, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.
 
Collins defeated Amy Fugit of Emporia State, 6-2, 6-2 and then beat Emma Santos, 6-4, 7-6. Hinton was victorious over Grace Ball, 6-0, 6-1 and then knocked off Madeline Johnson of Drake, 6-4, 6-1. Collins and Hinton will face each other Saturday at 9 a.m.
