GWANGJU, Korea – Kansas men’s basketball, representing the USA National Team at the 2015 World University Games (WUG) had its third-straight day full of activities visiting a local middle school in the afternoon and participating in the Games’ Opening Ceremonies Thursday evening.

The USA team started the day partaking in an academic outreach by walking three blocks outside the Athlete Village to Hwangdeck Middle School which overlooked the Village. Before approximately 150 students, the squad went through a light outdoor workout in preparation for the July 4 game against Turkey, scheduled to tip at noon in Gwangju, which is 10 p.m. on July 3 in Kansas. Following the workout, the USA Team student-athletes and staff conducted a clinic with about 40 of the middle school students.

The evening for the USA Team was spent at the breathtaking Opening Ceremonies of the 2015 World University Games where more than 47,000 packed a sold out Gwangju Universiade Stadium. The USA men’s basketball contingent waited outside the stadium and mingled with some of the more than 10,000 worldwide athletes participating in the games. The players and staff posed for photos and took videos with the many athletes and delegates who will be participating in the Games that run from July 3-14.

With a noon game the following day, the USA Team participated in the traditional walk through and then returned to the Athlete Village to rest up for its upcoming contest against Turkey which can be seen on ESPNU and the Watch ESPN app. Once back in the village, many of the USA Team members watch the rest of the Opening Ceremonies via the internet.
