Kansas’ Globe-Trekking Kuchkarova Finishes Summer Slate

MOSCOW, Russia – A week after competing at the FINA World Championships Kansas’ junior-to-be Yulya Kuchkarova continued representing her home country of Uzbekistan on a global stage at the 2015 FINA Airweave Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia.

Kuchkarova opened the World Cup with a swim in the 50-meter backstroke Monday morning. The Tashkent, Uzbekistan native finished the race in 29.67 to place 10th in the sprint, missing finals by .09 seconds. Her time was three-tenths of a second slower than her mark at the Wolrd Championships.

On Wednesday, Kuchkarova closed-out her summer of international competition in the 100-meter backstroke, posting another 10th-place finish with a time of 1:03.68.

Kuchkarova, a runner up in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke at the 2015 Big 12 Championships, will be back competing in the United States for Kansas on Oct. 2 as the Jayhawks host an intrasquad meet before opening the 2015-16 regular season with a double dual against Missouri State and Denver, Oct. 23-24.
