Football Professional Round Up: Week Two

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With professional football in full swing at the conclusion of the second week of games in the National Football League Sunday, 12 Jayhawks continue making their mark at the game’s highest level. A weekly recap of how Kansas football players fared in the professional ranks of the National Football League and the Canadian Football League is below.
 
Jon Cornish – Calgary Stampeders (CFL)
In Calgary’s 35-23 win over the B.C. Lions on Sept. 18, Cornish carried the ball 12 times for 41 yards and scored a touchdown. On the season, Cornish now has 73 rushes for 366 yards and four scores.
 
Chris Harris – Denver Broncos
Harris was instrumental in the Broncos’ 31-24 victory over Kansas City on Sept. 17. He recorded five total tackles, broke up a pass and had an interception.
 
Tanner Hawkinson – San Francisco 49ers 
Hawkinson is a member of the 49ers’ practice squad. San Francisco lost a 43-18 bout to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 20.
 
Ben Heeney – Oakland Raiders
Heeney recorded his first professional tackle in the Raiders’ 37-33 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 20. Heeney’s stop came on a Ravens’ 1st-and-10 at the Oakland 15-yard line on rush for a gain of two yards up the middle with 2:32 to play in the game and Baltimore holding a 33-30 advantage.
 
Steven Johnson – Tennessee Titans 
Johnson saw time at linebacker for Tennessee in the Titans’ 28-14 loss to Cleveland on Sept. 20, but the fourth-year linebacker didn’t record any statistics.
 
Dexter McDonald – Oakland Raiders
McDonald did not see any action in the Raiders’ 37-33 victory over Baltimore on Sept. 20.
 
Bradley McDougald – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 
McDougald posted three tackles – two solo – in the Buccaneers 26-19 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 20.
 
Toben Opurum – New Orleans Saints
Opurum did not see any action in the Saints’ 26-19 loss to Tampa Bay on Sept. 20.
 
JaCorey Shepherd – Philadelphia Eagles 
Shepherd is sidelined on the Eagles’ injured reserve list after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
 
Kevin Short – Seattle Seahawks
Short is a member of Seattle’s practice squad. The Seahawks lost a 27-17 contest to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football on Sept. 20.
 
Darrell Stuckey – San Diego Chargers
Stuckey did not record any statistics in San Diego’s 24-19 loss to Cincinnati on Sept. 20.

Aqib Talib – Denver Broncos 
Talib recorded two tackles, broke up two passes and intercepted his second pass of the season to propel Denver to a 31-24 victory over Kansas City on Thursday Night Football on Sept. 17.
